Pinterest Project #10 - Fabric Covered Boxes!
I really love today's project! At our house, we are always in need of some sort of containers or baskets to contain all of our clutter. I will be making a variety of these because they are quick and easy and cheap to make!
Introducing Pinterest Project #10...
Before I tell you about the fabric covered boxes, I'd like to just say how irritating it is when you pin something on Pinterest and you click the link hoping to see more info or a tutorial or something, and the link takes you to some spam website. It's irritating, but it also forces me to rely on my own creativity... I have no way of knowing how they made their particular fabric covered box. I like how mine ended up, though!
Now it doesn't have to be perfect, seeing as how the box will be covered in fabric, but I tried to line up the sides as close as possible. Also, I formed it with the Coke logos on the inside, because my fabric is a bit thin and I didn't want the logo showing through.
My fabric is striped, so to make it look right, I actually cut the fabric into sections before covering the box. This part could have been a lot easier if my fabric was plain or had a different pattern where it didn't matter if I matched it up perfectly. But I picked stripes.
So I used tacky glue (the spray kind), and sprayed it on the box and then started applying the fabric. I used one long strip of fabric which covered one side, the bottom, and the opposite side.
Then I added the other long strip of fabric, covering the other two sides and bottom (the bottom ended up with a double layer). Lastly, I just cut a small piece of fabric and squared it up in the bottom of the box.
I am very proud of myself! I've never done anything like this before, so this was my first one and I am very pleased with it. I'm going to make one more, and these are going to fit perfectly in our nightstands I recently repurposed!

Fabric Covered Boxes!
Don't you just love this fabric? I found this great fabric at Walmart, bought half a yard, and it cost me $1.50. I also picked up some yarn that matches the colors of this fabric, for yarn-wrapped letters which is another project I have pinned for my 365 Days of Pinterest Projects (on a Budget!) challenge.

I made this fabric covered box out of two Coca-Cola 24 pack boxes.
First I measured and cut out three rectangles and two squares. Then I lined them up and taped them together. I taped only the inside seams because it makes it easier to fold the sides up. Then after I formed the box, I reinforced the outside seams.
So I folded the sides up and taped them, reinforcing all the seams.
